Box Score QUEENS, N.Y. – Sophomore Erin Vernillo registered her team leading sixth goal of the season in the Queens College women's soccer team's 2-1 double overtime loss to New Haven Tuesday evening in non-conference action.
Ashley Dawson tallied the game-winner in the 98th minute for the Chargers, who moved to 8-4-3 on the year with the victory.
After a scoreless first half, New Haven recorded the initial tally of the game in the 51st minute when Danielle Widmann scored her first goal of the season.
Queens tied the game late as in the 79th minute, Vernillo took a short cross from senior Nicolette Scrozzo and one-timed the ball into the back of the net.
As time wound down in the first overtime session, New Haven netted the game winner. After a scramble at the top of the box, Dawson collected the loose ball and sent it into the top right corner.
In goal, Megan Deak registered five stops for QC, while Natasha Purchla made six saves for the Chargers.
The Knights are back in action Saturday at Mercy (12:00 pm).
