Pol Narbona Takes Five Shots in 1-0 Loss to Molloy

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - It was a tale of two halves for the Queens College men's soccer team in Rockville Centre, New York on Saturday, as they dominated Molloy in the first half, but conceded the games lone marker in a 1-0 loss in the second 45.

 

 

Queens pushed the attack early on, generating three chances in the first 13 minutes of play.  Nikolaus Maher took a cross in the box and put a header over the crossbar in the fourth minute.  Four minutes later, it was Pol Narbona who got a head on the ball, forcing the Molloy keeper to make a save.  Finally, Glen Reid flicked a shot on goal in the 13th minute that was saved by Justin Corke.

 

The Knights dominated possession in the first 45 minutes, keeping the ball at the Lions' end the majority of the time.  QC keeper, James Brostowski was challenged in the 36th minute, but made a save on a shot attempt from Hamza Elotmani.  One final scoring attempt in the first half came when Isiah Kossine, who came on as a sub in the 36th minute, got free in the box and flicked a shot at goal that was parried by the Lions' keeper.  The game went into halftime as a scoreless tie.

 

Molloy came out forcefully in the second half, testing Brostowski in the 47th minute.  They had another shot that went wide less than :30 seconds later.  Queens didn't get a shot off until the 50th minute when Navdeep Bains let go a shot that went wide.  The next best scoring chance came in the 71st minute when QC won a corner kick.  Reid took the corner and put a cross into the box that was deflected on goal by Aitor Gurruchaga, but was saved the Lions' keeper.

 

Elotmani scored the game's lone marker in the 75th minute when he dribble by four defenders and beat the goalie to put the Lions ahead, 1-0.

 

Queens had several chances to score in the final ten minutes of play, but were unable to convert.  Molloy won the game, 1-0.  The Knights are now 0-5 overall and 0-3 in the East Coast Conference.  Narbona led QC with five shots.  Reid attempted three.

 

The team returns to action on Wednesday, October 1, when they face Bridgeport on the road.  The kickoff is slated for 3:00 PM.
