Mersina Onesto Makes Five Saves in 3-0 Loss to Adelphi

Box Score

Garden City, N.Y. - The Queens College women's soccer team fell to #13 Adelphi, 3-0, in a game played at Motamed Field in Garden City on Saturday night.  Mersina Onesto turned aside five shots in the contest.

The first ten minutes were quiet for both sides, as Adelphi managed just one shot on goal during that time.  Queens back line of Bridget Gleason, Itzel Guzman, Kristina Gabrielsen and Courtney LoCurcio did a nice job of tempering the Panther's counterattack.

The final 15 minutes of the half saw the Knights gradually push forward.  Erika Riera came on as a sub and gave Queens some instant energy.  Late in the half, QC turned it over in their own end and Adelphi capitalized with game's first goal.

Adelphi made the score 2-0 with a marker in the 63rd minute.  They made it 3-0 in with a late goal.  Queens had a pair of shots on goal in the game, one each from Erin Vernillo and Antoinette Koskinas.  Nicolette Scrozzo had three shots in the game.

The Queens College women's soccer team returns to action on Tuesday, September 23, when they host Philadelphia University.  The kickoff with the Rams is slated for 4:00 PM.
