Knights and Mavericks Play to Scoreless Tie on Rain-Shortened Senior Day

Box Score

Flushing, N.Y. - The Queens College women's soccer team celebrated its Senior Day in a torrential downpour on Saturday against Mercy in Flushing.  The seniors honored before the game were Amanda Murolo, Ashley Martin, Kristina Gabrielsen, Erike Riera and Mersina Onesto.

The weather was the main story as the playing conditions were tough for both sides.  Neither side had many premium scoring chances, as the best opportunity came for Queens in the 32nd minute of play.

After a through ball down the left side, Nicolette Scrozzo got free and took a shot on goal that was parried by the Mercy keeper.  Erin Vernillo was there to clean up the mess, but she was whistled for offsides by the linesman.  Neither side scored in the first half.

The referee called a halt to the game with 15:10 remaining in the second half.  The game was called a draw. The team finished the 2014 campaign with an overall record of 4-8-5.
