Box Score Flushing, N.Y. - The Queens College women's soccer team faced an 11-3 Assumption team on Thursday from the soccer field in Flushing. After 90 minutes and two overtimes, QC earned a result as the game ended in a scoreless tie.
The game opened with both sides pushing the attack, but never getting any good scoring chances. The first opportunity for QC came in the 23rd minute. Itzel Guzman, who is a defender, came forward down the right side and put a shot on goal that hit the post and went wide.
A minute later, Mersina Onesto made the first of her five saves as the Greyhounds put a shot on target. Erin Vernillo had a shot on goal in the 37th minute, but that was turned aside as well. The game was scoreless at halftime.
Neither side had a ton of chances in the second half, and the game was scoreless at the end of regulation.
The best chance to score for the Knights came in the 104th minute. On a loose ball in the box, Vernillo put a shot on goal that was turned aside by an Assumption defender. The game ended in a scoreless draw.
After the draw, Queens is now 4-8-4 on the season. They close out the 2014 campaign on Saturday when they host Mercy. The team will honor its four seniors prior to the game.
