Bridget Gleason Scores Game's Only Goal in 1-0 Shutout of Roberts Wesleyan

Flushing, N.Y. - The Queens College women's soccer team won its second straight contest, a 1-0 shutout of Roberts Wesleyan in a game played in front of thrgons of alumni who returned for athletics alumni weekend in Queens.  Current junior, Bridget Gleason, treated them to the game's lone goal.

The Redhawks were the first team to get a scoring chance in the game, as they tested Mersina Onesto at the quarter-hour.  The Knights keeper was up to the task as she made three saves to earn the clean sheet.

Queens had three shots in the first 30 minutes of action as Nicolette Scrozzo, Taylor Bonanno and Erin Vernillo all took a shot that was saved or off target.  Bonanno nearly put QC up 1-0 at 43:15 when she got her head to a corner kick from Courtney Locurcio that was stopped by the Roberts Wesleyan keeper.  The game was scoreless at halftime.

QC scored the game's only marker at 53:42.  After pressing the attack and earning a corner kick, Locurcio put the ensuing kick into the six-yard-box where a wide-open Bridget Gleason had the easy job of heading in the goal.  Queens went ahead, 1-0.

Roberts Wesleyan had a chance to tie the game in the 75th minute, but Onesto made the save and the Knights held on for the win.  The goal was Gleason's first of the season.  Bonanno led the Knights with a pair of shots on goal.

The Queens College women's soccer team returns to action on Tuesday, Octber 21, when they face Georgian Court from Lakewood, New Jersey.  The game starts at 3:30 PM.
