Overtime Goal by Aitor Gurruchaga Lifts Knights to 3-2 Win Over Bloomsburg

Box Score

Bloomsburg, Pa. - Queens College got a game-winning goal in the 95th minute from junior defender, Aitor Gurruchaga and defeated Bloomsburg, 3-2, in a soccer match played in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania on Tuesday.  The Knights improved to 3-7 in the win.

QC did something they hadn't done to this point all season long, play with the lead.  Queens jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Nicholas Matusewicz put in a cross from the far left wing that found Pol Narbona in the middle of the box.  The junior from Barcelona, Spain, got his head to it and put the Knights ahead with the goal.  This is the third straight game that these two hooked up on a marker.

The Huskies pushed the attack the last 15 minutes of the first half and were able to score the equalizer in the 42nd minute.  The game entered halftime tied at 1-1.

The Knights regained the lead just before the hour mark as Narbona and Matusewicz connected again.  This time Matusewicz put a free kick into the box where Gurruchaga immediately headed it over to Narbona, who scored the go-ahead marker.  The Knights led 2-1.

From there, Bloomsburg nearly tied the game in the 78th minute.  QC goalie, James Brostowski parried a blast from Brett Milden and the deflection came to another Huskies player who hit the post with his own shot.  Brostowski turned aside three shots in the win.

The victory looked in-hand for the Knights, until the Huskies tied the game in the 84th minute. The game ended regulation even at 2-2.

The Knights put the game away just five minutes into overtime when Gurruchaga careened a loose ball in the box and spun around and blasted the ball into the back of the net.  Queens had a 3-2 win.

The Queens College men's soccer team returns to action on Friday, October 17, when they host Daemen College.  The kickoff with the Wildcats is slated for 3:00 PM.
