Knights Unbeaten Streak Reaches Eight with 5-0 Thumping of Caldwell

Box Score

Caldwell, N.J. - The Queens College men's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to eight games with a 5-0 blanking of Caldwell on Monday in New Jersey.  The Knights last lost came in the season opener, a 2-1 setback to Bentley, back on September fifth.  With the win, Queens improved to 6-1-2 on the season.

Despite the lopsided score, Caldwell had more corner kicks than QC and the two sides were very nearly even in shots.  However, Queens made the most of its chances, finding the back of the net five times.

QC got on the board in the 12th minute of action when Pol Narbona found Paul Sandoval inside the 18-yard box.  From about 15 yards out, Sandoval beat the goalie and the Knights had a 1-0 lead.  Thirty minutes later, the Knights doubled their lead as Aitor Gurrutxaga played a long ball up the middle for Glen Reid, who connected on his fifth goal of the season.  Queens led 2-0 at the break.

The Knights pulled away in the second half in the 50th minute when Peter Touros took in a deflected ball from a Cougars defender and went off the far post for the goal.  Queens led 3-0.

Five minutes later, Touros would be involved again as he played a through ball to Jose Lopez in the box, and Lopez slid the shot under the goalie and into the back of the net, giving the Knights a 4-0 advantage.  The final marker came in the 79th minute as Touros got his second goal of the game.  Nicholas Matsuewicz lifted a one-timer into the box and Touros finished it.

The five goal outburst was the most goals scored by the team in a  single game since they beat Wilmington, 5-1 in the season-opener in 2011.

The Queens College men's soccer team returns to action on Saturday, October 5, when they travel to Dobbs Ferry, New York to face Mercy.  The kickoff with the Mavericks is slated for 3:00 PM.
