Box Score Amherst, N.Y. - The Queens College men's
soccer team used a huge second half (to the tune of five goals) to
propel them to a 5-2 win over Daemen in the school's East
Coast Conference opener on Saturday in Amherst, New York.
Midfielder Glen Reid led the Knights with a goal and three assists
in the win.
The Knights came out by pressing the attack against the Wildcats
as Daemen was held with just one shot until the 18th
minute, while Queens managed to take four over the same time.
In fact, for the half, QC managed eight shots, to four for
Daemen. Goalie Sean Geoghegan turned aside three shots in the
first 45 minutes of action.
Three minutes into the second half saw the Knights take the
lead. After earning a corner kick, Reid lifted the ball
towards the goal, and Pol Narbona got a head to it and beat the
keeper for his second marker of the season. The Knights had a
1-0 lead.
Just past the hour mark saw Daemen level the score. From
twenty yards out, Alex Reid volleyed a shot past the outstretched
arms of Geoghegan for a goal. Reid's second marker of
the season tied the game at 1-1.
Seven minutes after that and QC would regain the lead on nearly
the same play that earned them their first marker. This time
Reid was on the other side of it as Peter Touros lifted a corner
kick into the box where Reid jumped and headed the ball into the
back of the net to put Queens up, 2-1.
Less than a minute later, Queens pushed its lead to 3-1
capitalizing on a corner kick for the third time. Once again
Reid took the corner , and he found Jorge Artavia who calmly
blasted the ball past the keeper for the score.
Ten minutes later, Daemen cut into the Knights lead as Kyle
Clifford connected on his team-best fifth goal of the season off a
free kick. All of a sudden, the Wildcats were within one, at
3-2. Exactly three minutes later, Reid connected on a free
kick himself following a foul, and the Knights were ahead,
4-2. An insurance goal came for QC with ten seconds remaining
as Tyler Iocco took in a blocked shot and beat the keeper to make
the score, 5-2.
The QC men's soccer team returns to action on Sunday,
September 22 when they face Roberts Wesleyan College. The
kickoff for that game is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
