Box Score Old Westbury, N.Y. – The Knights women's soccer team
recorded an East Coast Conference victory over opponent NYIT Bears.
The 2-1 win gives QC their ninth win of the season, fourth in ECC
play. The win also puts them in a third place tie with
LIU Post , Dowling College and Roberts Wesleyan.
In the 14th minute of the first half, Knights
sophomore Nicolette Scrozzo netted her second goal of the 2013
season after senior Lorena Russi crossed it to Scrozzo through the
box. Defensively, Queens held Tech scoreless, after the
Bears attempted six shots in the half. Four of those shots were on
goal, and three of them were turned away by Knights keeper Mersina
Onesto.
Five minutes into the second half, Russi, who earned ECC
offensive player of the week, got her ninth goal of the season
after Rebecca LaPorta crossed it over. Her ninth goal keeps
her tied for second with Roberts Wesleyan's Brittany Foster
on the ECC leaderboard. Kacey Bougard from Daemen remains the
leader with a total of 10 goals on the season. NYIT halved the
Knights lead with a goal by Sina Windmueller in the 83rd
minute of the match.
Windmueller's goal was the only goal allowed by the ECC
goalie of the week , Onesto. With the win, Mersina recorded her
9th victory of the season.
The Knights women's soccer team will return to the soccer
pitch next Saturday at 12 PM when they host the Dowling College
Golden Lions on the campus of Queens College.
The remainder of the schedule consists of three crucial home
games against ECC opponents which include Dowling, University of
Bridgeport and LIU Post. All those games will be at home so be sure
to come out and root for your Knights during their playoff push!
