Box Score Sparkill, N.Y. – The Queens College men's soccer team used
four first-half goals to defeat the St. Thomas Aquinas Spartans
4-2. The win is their third East Coast Conference victory of
the 2013 season. They improve to 7-2-2 overall.
The first twenty minutes of the game saw the Knights trading
goals against the Spartans. Jose Lopez answered
a goal by STAC's Michael Corbi (8:10) with one of his own at 12:46.
Almost six minutes later, STAC regained the lead after Michael
Wagner knocked it past Knights keeper Sean Geoghegan
from the top of the box. Two minutes later, Scott Lamont
knotted things up with a goal of his own.
The last goal of the first half would be the match-clincher as
Paul
Sandoval kicked it past the Spartan keeper, Nathan Mangione, at
36:58. The Knights would end the first half up 3-2 after connecting
on 3 of their 12 first half shots.
QC held St. Thomas Aquinas scoreless in the second half and
Geoghegan ended the day saving five of the seven shots on goal. He
recorded his sixth win of the season. Offensively, the
Knights' Nikolas Maher padded
Queens's lead with a goal at the 73-minute mark.
The Knights men's soccer team will next host East Coast
Conference opponent University of the District of Columbia
Firebirds on Wednesday, October 16th at the Queens
College soccer field. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 PM.
