It was a season of superlatives for the Queens College
women's soccer team, highlighted by double-digit wins and the
first ever result against LIU-Post during coach Christian's
tenure, but the season ended on Friday with a 2-0 setback to
Bridgeport in the semifinals of the East Coast Conference
Tournament. The Knights finished the 2012 campaign with a
12-4-4 record.
The game started in earnest for QC, as they earned a pair of
corner kicks in the opening two minutes of play, but were unable to
capitalize on those. In the 17th minute, Sarah
Boucher (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) let go a shot, but it went wide
of the net.
Bridgeport got into the action in the 21st minute
when Danielle Puddefoot took a shot on goal, but QC's Allison
Breakey (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln Way East) made the save to keep
the game scoreless. Breakey wasn't as fortunate in the
33rd minute, when Aulona Velaj flicke the ball to Asia
Pulse in the box, and Pulse chipped it into the net over Breakey
giving the Purple Knights took a 1-0 lead.
The score remained at 1-0 Bridgeport until the 78th
minute, when they doubled the score. This time, Puddefoot
played a long through-ball forward and Velaj scored it, making the
lead 2-0 for the Purple Knights.
Queens had another shot in the 85th minute, but it
also went wide. Bridgeport ran out the clock and won
2-0. Breakey made four saves in the game, while Boucher
collected both shots.
