Men's Soccer Defeats Molloy, 2-1, in East Coast Conference Action

The Queens College men's soccer team completed a sweep of Molloy, defeating the Lions by the same 2-1 mark that the women's team had in their matchup.  With the win, the Knights improved to 5-2-2 overall, 3-1-1 in conference play.

The very physical game, that was played in a misty rain, began with Queens pushing the action from the onset, earning a scoring chance in the 12th minute as Glen Reid (Falkirk, Scotland/British School of Houston Texas) flicked a shot on goal that deflected off the post and went to safety.  In the next four minutes, Paul Sandoval (Mineola, N.Y./Mineola) forced Molloy goalie Justin Corke to make a pair of saves to keep the game scoreless.  Late in the 19th minute, Queens would find the back of the net.

Eric Clermont (London, England/St. Ignatius) was on one side of the pitch, and he found Reid wide open in the box.  From there, Reid buried the shot past Corke and the Knights had a 1-0 lead.  It was Reid's first tally of the season.

However, the lead lasted barely ten minutes, as the Lions evened the score at the half hour mark as Mario Gagliano made a run at the net and flicked the ball past Sean Geoghegan (Kildare, Ireland/Naas CBS) for the equalizer.

The game remained deadlocked long into the second half before Sandoval picked up the game-winner.  In the 82nd minute, he took the ball, went on a run through the box, and beat Corke to the far side for the unassisted goal.  It was his third goal of the season and his second and third points of the match.

Molloy earned a corner kick in the 90th minute, but the Knights' defense harmlessly flicked the ball to safety and Queens had a 2-1 win.

In the victory, Jose Lopez (Great Neck, N.Y./Great Neck North) led the Knights with five shots on goal, while Geoghegan made a pair of saves in the win.

The men's soccer team returns to action on Saturday, October 6, when they welcome the University of the District of Columbia to Flushing.  The game is slated to begin at 1:00 PM.
