Knights Women's Soccer Defeats the NYIT Bears on Senior Day

Flushing, N.Y. (October 27, 2012) – The Knights women's soccer team defeated ECC foe NYIT 4-1 on Senior Day and the final day of the season. The win put them at 10-3-4 (5-1-2 in ECC play) this season.

The Knights scoring came within the first 20 minutes of the game, with senior Janine Guerra (#4) starting the scoring with a header off a corner kick at 6:47 in the first half. Freshman Nicolette Scrozzo (#9) netted the Knights second goal off a steal at 11:16. The third goal came from junior Lisa Cassata (#5) who headed a corner kick into the net just 2 minutes and change later at 13:54. The Knights scoring barrage wasn't over as senior Lorena Russi scored the game's 4th goal and the team-leading 7th goal at 19:47.

In net, true senior Alli Breakey, who has been a stalwart in goal for the Knights these last 4 years, was solid once again on her Senior Day.  She allowed just one goal against NYIT, which came in the second half.  She ended the regular season with a .88 goals against average this season.

The other seniors honored today on Senior Day were Guerra, Sarah Boucher (#3) and Sasha Ortiz (#14).

Head Coach Carl Christian's Knights women's soccer team now heads into the ECC playoffs with a semi-finals matchup on the road against the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights on Wednesday, October 31st at 3 PM.
