Troiano's First Collegiate Tally Sends Women's Soccer Past Nyack, 2-0

Box Score

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College (1-2) women's soccer team kicked off its home opener against Nyack College (0-3) with a well-deserved, 2-0 win on a soggy Tuesday afternoon.

During the first half of play, the Knights had a total of four shots on goal, and goalkeeper Allison Breakey saved two of Nyack's attempts to keep the contest scoreless.

In the 53rd minute of play, a free kick by Katherine Colon (W. Babylon, N.Y.) helped freshman Alexandra Troiano (Malverne, N.Y.) find the top left of the net for her first career goal, after a deflection off of a Nyack defender.

With less than a minute left in the game, attacker Brittany Silipo (Bay Shore, N.Y.) crossed the ball from the right channel to find junior Janine Guerra (Whitestone, N.Y.) open in front of the net to score the Knights' second goal of the game. For Guerra, it was the second-consecutive contest in which she has found the back of the net.

Breakey had a total of four saves for QC, who outshot the Warriors 9-6 on the afternoon. Nyack counterpart Sarah Madsen turned aside five shots in the loss.

Head coach Carl Christian's squad next kicks off East Coast Conference play one week from Saturday (Sept. 17), when they travel to Sparkill, N.Y., for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff at St. Thomas Aquinas College.
