FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College women's soccer team earned a positive result Saturday afternoon, as the host Knights secured a 1-1 tie against visiting Dowling College - who entered the day tied for the East Coast Conference lead.
Queens (4-4-1, 2-1-1 ECC) took a 1-0 lead in the 50th minute of play, when senior Andrea Slavin (Floral Park, N.Y.) stood over the ball just outside the Dowling (8-3-1, 3-1-1 ECC) penalty area following a Golden Lions foul. Slavin sent a 20-yard rocket over the wall and into the top middle of the goal, giving her side a one-goal advantage.
Dowling answered back 10 minutes later, when Megan Emanuelo received the ball off a Knights' turnover in the middle of the field, and placed a 25-yard blast to an almost identical spot as Slavin did, providing the equalizer for the visitors.
QC junior keeper Allison Breakey (Frankfort, Ill.) made five saves and thwarted several crosses, while her Dowling counterpart, Melissa Guglielmo turned aside two shots. The Golden Lions held a 13-9 shots advantage, as well as a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.
Head coach Carl Christian's Queens side is back in action Tuesday afternoon, when the Knights play host to a non-conference match with Felician at 4 p.m.
