Men's Soccer Clips Dowling, 2-0

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Junior striker Peter Touros came off the bench to start the second half Saturday afternoon for the Queens College men's soccer team, and headed home the breakthrough goal less than one minute after the restart to lift the Knights to a 2-0, East Coast Conference victory over visiting Dowling College.

Queens (5-5-2, 2-0-1 ECC) took the lead 53 seconds into the second half of play, as senior Juan Cano (Valley Stream, N.Y.) sent a left-side cross towards the six-yard box. Peter Touros was there to head home the feed past Dowling (4-4-3, 0-2-2 ECC) keeper Corey Desmond, giving his squad a 1-0 advantage.

The Knights defense withstood pressure from a physical Golden Lions squad all afternoon, but they were able to add an insurance goal in the 86th minute of action after a foul in the DC box. Junior Danny Stoker (London, England), who played in the back row for Queens' third straight clean sheet, stepped up to the penalty spot and bested Desmond to account for the final score.

Dowling held a 15-9 shots advantage, and a slight 5-4 edge in corners. Desmond made one stop in the Golden Lions cage, while Peter Touros's brother, senior Demetrios Touros (Bellerose, N.Y.), turned aside five shots to pick up the shutout.

Head coach Carl Christian's Knights are back in action Monday afternoon, as it travels to Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., for a crucial ECC affair at Mercy College. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m.
