LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Queens College women's soccer team dropped a road contest Wednesday afternoon, falling at Georgian Court University by a 1-0 count, despite holding an 8-3 advantage in shots.
The host Lions (6-4) got the only goal of the contest in the 74th minute of the match, when Kelly Lyons headed home her eighth goal of the season off a free kick from Farrell Pomponio.
The Knights (4-4) outshot GCU 2-0 in the first frame, and 6-3 in the second stanza. Junior keeper Allison Breakey (Frankfort, Ill.) made one save for Queens, while her counterpart, Shealyn Sullivan turned aside two shots in her side's victory.
Head coach Carl Christian's Queens side is back in East Coast Conference action Saturday afternoon (Oct. 8), when they play host to a crucial matchup against conference-leading Dowling College in Flushing at 12 noon.
