Women's Soccer Downed by No. 1 Bridgeport, 3-1

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – The Queens College women's soccer team saw its 2011 come to a close Sunday afternoon at Knights Field, as top-ranked University of Bridgeport wrapped up an undefeated regular season with a  3-1 triumph over the visiting Knights.

The host Purple Knights (16-0, 7-0 ECC) got on the board in the 11th minute of play, when Katie Kenny touched home a corner kick from Katie Stanley for her 10th goal of the season.

Queens (7-7-1, 3-3-1 ECC) answered back in the 24th minute, when senior Janine Guerra (Whitestone, N.Y.) collected a rebound off junior Brittany Silipo's (Bay Shore, N.Y.) shot at the top of the box, and dented the open net for the equalizing tally. The marker was the first goal that UB has allowed in the first half all season long.

Stanley's right-side cross found the foot of Julia Colley in the 31st minute of action, who one-timed a shot past QC junior keeper Allison Breakey (Frankfort, Ill.) to give the Purple Knights a 2-1 advantage.

The Purple Knights rounded out the scoring in the 60th minute of play, when Jenny Hwang buried her first goal of the campaign on a 20-yard one-timer from the top of the box.

Three Queens student-athletes played in their final match in a Knights uniform Sunday: Katherine Colon (W. Babylon, N.Y.), Silipo and Andrea Slavin (Floral Park, N.Y.).
