NO. ANDOVER, Mass. – Junior keeper made Allison Breakey made a season-best 12 saves Tuesday afternoon to keep the Queens College women's soccer team in the contest at 15th-ranked Merrimack College, but the host Warriors utilized an 18th-minute tally to register a 1-0 decision over the visiting Knights.
Merrimack (13-2) got the only score of the match in the 18th minute, when Jenna Zechner scored from the right side off Sarah Coakley's throw-in.
Queens (7-5-1) used a three-shot flurry in the middle of the second half in an attempt to beat Warriors keeper Kiley Horne (four saves), but was unable to find the equalizer.
Merrimack held a 17-10 edge in shots (10-4 in first half), and a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Head coach Carl Christian's Queens side now has a four-day turnaround before facing a crucial East Coast Conference match at home, playing host to C.W. Post on Saturday (Oct. 22) at 11:30 a.m. QC will serve to raise breast cancer awareness at the match, as part of a conference-wide event.
