Silipo, Russi Send Women's Soccer Past Caldwell, 3-0

CALDWELL, N.J. – Junior Lorena Russi scored three points off a goal and an assist, while Brittany Silipo netted two goals to go with one assist Thursday afternoon, as the Queens College women's soccer team (6-4-1) captured a 3-0 non-conference victory at Caldwell College (5-6-1).

The contest was called after 70-plus minutes of action due to darkness.

Russi (Rego Park, N.Y.) opened the scoring off a feed from Silipo (Bay Shore, N.Y.) in the 30th minute of action, netting her fifth tally of the season from 18 yards away to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage that it would never relinquish.

Silipo added a pair of 20-yard strikes for her fourth and fifth goals of the season, respectively, to account for the final score. She converted a pass from Russi in the 37th minute of play to double the Knights' advantage, before adding an insurance goal in the 63rd minute.

Queens held an 11-4 advantage in shots (5-1 in second half), while both the Knights and Cougars took three corner kicks apiece. Junior QC keeper, Allison Breakey (Frankfort, Ill.) picked up the clean sheet with two stops on the afternoon, while her Caldwell counterpart, Robin Franchi, turned aside six shots.

Head coach Carl Christian's Queens side is back in East Coast Conference action Saturday (Oct. 15), when they travel to Old Westbury, N.Y., for a 12 noon kickoff at New York Institute of Technology.
