Women's Soccer Clipped by Molloy, 2-1

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College women's soccer team outshot visiting Molloy College by a 21-4 count Saturday afternoon, but the host Knights were unable to capitalize on their opportunities, as the Lions came away with a 2-1 victory in East Coast Conference action.

Queens (3-3, 1-1 ECC) held a 10-2 advantage in shots in the first half, but it was Molloy (6-4, 2-1) who would get on the board first. Lions freshman Danielle Pigott headed home the breakthrough goal in the 24th minute to give Molloy the lead at the halftime break.

Early in the second half, sophomore Allison Sloper found the upper right corner of the net to put the visitors ahead by two.

The Knights battled back in the 67th minute of play, when freshman Alexandra Troiano (Malverne, N.Y.) converted a feed from Katherine Colon (W. Babylon, N.Y.) on the breakaway to slice her team's deficit in half, at 2-1. However, QC would get no closer the rest of the way, as it dropped an ECC match for the first time this season.

In addition to its sizeable shots advantage, Queens hit one post on the afternoon and held a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.

Molloy keeper Nicole DellaPorta stood tall in net, as she made nine saves in her side's victory.

Coach Carl Christian's squad is back in action on Monday afternoon, Oct. 3, when the Knights take on Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., at 4 p.m.
