The Knights outshot Southern Connecticut State University 13-3
but were beaten 2-0 for the second straight day in the Franklin
Pierce Tournament on Saturday.
Laura D'Amore had a golden opportunity to give QC the lead four
minutes in but her penalty kick was turned away by Olivia Hefferman
of SCSU. Seventeen minutes later, Suzane Pires took a feed up the
gut from Jenna Mellico and beat Allison Breakey of QC from 18
yeards out to put Southern Connecticut ahead 1-0. Flavia Bernardes
made it 2-0 when she converted on a penalty kick at the 29:31 mark.
That is the way the half would end despite QC holding a 8-3
advantage in shots.
QC took five more shots in the final 45 minutes while
holding SCSU without an attempt but were unable to get any past
Hefferman. The last of those attempts, which came off of the foot
of Sarah Boucher, clanged off of the crossbar with just 21 seconds
remainiing in the contest.
Melissa Cuartas led the Knights with three shots while Boucher
and Brittany Silipo had two apiece in the loss.
