Eighteenth ranked Franklin Pierce scored early in each half to
send QC to a 2-0 loss in their 2010 opener on the pitch in Rindge,
New Hampshire. The Knights next face Southern Connecticut State
tomorrow in day 2 of the Franklin Pierce Tournament.
The Ravens caught the Knights flat-footed to start the day and
converted on their second shot attempt of the contest to open the
scoring. Tori Gikas accepted a pass from Amanda Panaro and beat
Knights' keeper Allison Breakey just 2:07 into the game for what
turned out to be the game winning goal. The two players combined
for an insurance goal on a counter attack at the 53:29 mark with
Panaro scoring this time on a cross from Gikas.
Breakey turned away three shots and Laura D'Amore led QC with
two shots for the game. Sarah Boucher also acquitted herself well
at sweeper while Lorena Russi and Lisa Cassata earned starting
assignments in what turned out to be an evenly played match.
