Danny Stoker converted on two second half penalty kicks in the
Knights 4-2 loss to the visiting Cougars of Caldwell College on
Tuesday afternoon. All six of the goals were scored in the final 28
minutes of the contest.
QC held a slight advantage in play over the initial 45 minutes
of the game and outshot Caldwell 13 -5 in the process. The Knights
best chance to break out on top came in the 30th minute on a play
started by Demetrios Touros, QC's goalkeeper. Touros' booming
goal kick bounced over the heads of several Caldwell defenders,
finding Daniel Ospina alone in the box with a clear path to the
net. Ospina then fired a low shot that hit the right post and the
game remained tied at 0-0.
Caldwell got on the board first when Mosiah Whyte was fouled
just outside the box in the 63rd minute. This set up a free kick
for Kristopher Bistre, who beat Touros to give Caldwell the lead.
The Cougars doubled their lead 14 minutes later when
Whyte put a shot off of the right post and into the cage but Stoker
converted on the first of two penalty kicks to make it a 2-1 game
with just under 12 minutes remaining.
Now it was Caldwell's turn at a penalty kick try and Rob Arena
converted at the 82:31 mark to restore Caldwell's two goal
lead. Chris Skarbelis made it a 4-1 game two minutes and 14 seconds
later before Stoker answered with his second penalty kick goal with
3:20 left in the game to close out the scoring for the
afternoon.
