Melissa Cuartas and Brittany Silipo each scored twice in QC's
8-1 win over the visiting Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College in
the first game of a soccer doubleheader on Saturday. The win was
the fourth straight for the Knights, who are now 2 for 2 in league
games.
QC dominated from the get go and Melissa Cuartas opened the
scoring for the home team in the 13th minute. A Katherine Colon
feed sent Cuartas in alone on the right side and she beat STAC
goalkeeper Jeanette Gibson to give QC the early 1-0 lead. After two
apparent Knights' goals were wiped off due to offside infractions,
Lisa Cassata doubled the Knights advantage when she beat Gibson at
the 37:13 mark for her first collegiate goal.
QC wasted no time increasing their lead in the second half. The
combination of Silipo and Colon combined for two goals one minute
and 10 seconds apart to blow the game open just 3:28 into the half.
Colon twice broke down the left side and found Silipo down the
middle, who connected for her fourth and fifth goals of the season
at 47:18 and 48:28. Cuartas added her second in the 55th minute,
Dena Zornberg scored off of her own rebound at 60:22 and Brittany
Wooster also banged home a rebound of her own shot in the 83rd
minute to put QC ahead 7-1. After Paige Hirsch broke up QC's
shutout bid with a goal at 84:05, Janine Guerra converted
on a nice pass down the middle from Wooster to notch her first
of the year to wrap up the scoring for the day.
