Queens College knocked on the door for 91 minutes before losing to C.W. Post in an overtime heartbreaker. The Knights came out strong in the first half, establishing themselves as an offensive threat immediately. In the 6th minute of play, QC's Katherine Colon took the game's first shot, missing high. In the 23rd minute, after a C.W. Post foul, Colon attempted once again, but her shot was blocked by goalie, Allie Weiser. Minutes later, Allison Breakey demonstrated the Knights' defensive excellence, with a pair of impressive saves, the second of which she made in front of an open goal on a high shot off the foot of Post's Prudence Rydstrom. With the score tied at 0, the Knights went into halftime with reason to be optimistic.
The second half opened with the same offensive energy. Just 7 minutes into the half (52 minutes into play), Katherine Colon sent the ball into the box on a Knights corner kick. The ball found the head of QC's Laura D'Amore but was deflected by Post's midfielder, Danielle DeLuca. The rebound came out to Caitlin Gracia and was sent in to Colon, but her shot was blocked once again by Weiser.
Queens continued to pound on the door, with a series of shots putting pressure on Weiser and the Post defense. Colon fed the ball in to Kirri Bolton in the 62nd minute, setting her up for a header towards the Post goal; this would be the first of Bolton's 3 second-half shots. Queens would have their last chance in regulation after a C.W. Post foul in the 85th minute. The Knights' Katherine Colon bent a pass in from the right corner, sailing towards a mixture of blue and white jerseys. Her ball found Post's defense though and was cleared out, wrapping up the offensive tries for regulation time.
C.W. Post began the game's first overtime with possession of the ball. 1 minute and 29 seconds in, Post forward, Alexa Niciforo took a shot from the top of the penalty box. Breakey tried once more to execute a miraculous save, but the high shot tipped her fingers and found the top of the net.
The Knights, who demonstrated an impressive team effort in this game against the country's 15th-ranked team, reached the ECC Championship game for the first time in school history.
