Danny Stoker's golden goal in the 95th minute gave the Knights a
3-2 overtime victory over Mercy College on the Sunday of Queens
College Homecoming Weekend.
Stoker took a pass from the right wing from Daniel Ospina,
turned, and then fired a shot past Pedro Vealzquez-Diaz of Mercy to
give QC their first win in conference play.
The Knights took a 1-0 lead in the 41st minute on Akinyode Dele's third goal of the year. Ospina set the play up by serving
the ball into Stoker, who chested the ball to Dele for the shot
from just inside the box. QC made the lead stand up until six and a
half minutes into the second half when the Mavericks struck.
Michael Fernandes touched the ball to Raldino Powell who beat
Knights goalkeeper Dario Cabanas to deadlock the game at one.
Mercy went up 2-1 at 60:40 when Collin Legge made good on a free
kick from just outside the right side of the box and threaded the
needle for his second of the year. Stoker answered for the Knights
at the 70:55 mark, taking a cross from Kevin Vazquez and heading
the ball home for his first of the game and fifth of the year.
Stoker finished the day with two goals and an assist and Ospina
had a pair of assists to help QC improve to 3-6 overall and 1-2 in
ECC play.
