Colin Whalen's goal in the 32nd minute turned out to be the game
winner as Holy Family took a 1-0 win over the Knights back to
Philadelphia.
Whalen one timed a throw in from Jeffrey Wimsey past Dario
Cabanas at 31:32 to give Holy Family a 1-0 lead. That's the way the
half would end with QC directing 11 shots towards Holy Family
goalkeeper Mark Ferretti and Holy Family answering with nine
attempts at the Knights net.
Holy Family was inches away from taking a two goal lead but Marc
Fischer was foiled by the left post 3:09 into the second half. The
Knights made a push in the 60th minute with Ferretti forced to turn
aside a Tyler Iocco shot and a rebound attempt by striker Danny
Stoker in rapid succession. Twenty seconds later, Ferretti punched
away a Stoker header in the box to keep his team in the lead.
Thomas Stackhouse nearly scored an insurance goal for Holy
Family at 78:05, but his shot clanged off of the crossbar and
was cleared by the Knights defense. QC continued to press the
offense and Iocco saw his chance to tie the game moments
later sail harmlessly over the net.
Dario Cabanas made five saves in net for QC and Iocco led the 24
shot Knights offense with a team high six attempts in a
non-conference loss.
