Volleyball Ends Road Portion of Season With Three-Set Defeat at Hands of NYIT

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Nov. 2, 2018) - Despite putting up a game effort in the first set, the Queens College volleyball team ultimately could not hang with NYIT on Friday (Nov. 2) as the Knights fell in three sets in the team's second-to-last match of the season. Scores favored the Bears by a count of 25-19, 25-6 and 25-12.

Lauren Kehoe led Queens with five kills as Leeks Hollis added four kills and eight digs for the Knights in the loss at Recreation Hall. Briana Green added four kills and Dee-Ana Mitchell posted a three-kill evening with seven digs. Vanessa Juengerkes dished out ten assists and accumulated nine digs, Gina Giacalone accrued five digs and Savannah-Reese Denusta chipped in with four digs as well.

NYIT celebrated Senior Night as ECC Preseason Player of the Year Tiffany Verni led her team with 14 kills and a .440 hitting percentage to go along with eight digs. The Bears hit .299 as a team with Keely Ruby posting five kills and a .500 attacking clip in the victory. Vanessa Velandia had a match-high 12 assists as the Bears also had ten-dig performances from Jamie Yonker and senior Samantha Degaray. 

The Knights conclude the 2018 season on Saturday (Nov. 3) with a 1 p.m. showcase against LIU Post as the team honors its six seniors---Giacalone, Hollis, Juengerkes, Sarah Koehler, Maryjane D'Agostino and Nicole Cranny---prior to the contest with the Pioneers.
