Volleyball Loses Three-Set Affair with Conference Foe Mercy on Saturday

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Oct. 20, 2018) - The Queens College volleyball team lost in straight sets on Saturday (Oct. 20) to Mercy College with the Mavericks sweeping the season series from the Knights thanks to the 25-7, 25-11, 25-9 result at Fitzgerald Gymnasium.

Leeks Hollis led the way with four kills for Queens as Sarah Koehler scored three kills in two sets off the bench. Vanessa Juengerkes compiled eight assists in the effort while Gina Giacalone posted another good defensive match with 13 digs, pushing her season statistics to just below the 200-dig plateau with 190 for the season. Hollis added six digs and Danielle Agbonifino collected two kills and two blocks for the Knights.

The Mavericks were led by Leilani Vazquez's 13 kills, as the sophomore posted a .565 hitting percentage for Mercy in the win. Loreto Nunez Casal added nine kills with Brooke Runge sporting a double-double (25 assists, 11 digs) to go along with her four kills on the afternoon. Natalia Garcia and Neysha Gonzalez accumulated eleven digs and ten digs, respectively, in the win for the Mavericks.

Queens will be in action on Friday (Oct. 26) at 6 p.m. with the Knights playing conference-leading Daemen in Amherst, N.Y.
