Volleyball Battles Hard Against Defending Champion Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, CT - Despite losing in three straight sets (12-25, 25-15, 21-25), the Queens College volleyball team ((3-11 Overall, 1-3 ECC) battled hard against reigning ECC champion Bridgeport (4-6 Overall, 3-0 ECC) in conference action Thursday evening from Hubbell Gym.

In the first set, the Knights fell in an early 4-0 deficit before taking their first point after an attacking error from the Purple Knights. After another error cut the lead to five, Queens found themselves down 10-19. The deficit would be too much for Queens to overcome as they dropped the first set.

The Knights shrugged off their first set jitters as they took a 5-2 lead in the second set before the Purple Knights made a comeback. A kill by sophomore Malaika Hollis would knot the set at 15. QC refused to go away as they pushed the Purple Knights in a high scoring set. Another Hollis kill gave the Knights a 23-22 lead. Senior Tori Bowser would later bring Queens within a point to tie the match. But Bridgeport fought back with back to back kills to take the second set.

The third set saw a see-saw battle within the first 10 points before the Purple Knights took a lead which they would never relinquish as they took the third set and the match.

Junior Kristen Moore recorded 28 assists, while senior Ragina Anthony led the squad with 15 digs. Freshman Cassidy Stewart served up 10 kills, while Bowser tallied up eight kills.

UP NEXT: The Knights return home to continue their conference action on Tuesday, Oct 4, as they play host to the Lions of Molloy College (2-14 Overall, 0-3 ECC) for a 7:00 pm first serve.
