FLUSHING, N.Y. - The Queens College volleyball team dropped a three set decision to Caldwell Tuesday evening at FitzGerald Gymnasium. Set scores were 25-21, 25-23 and 25-19.
Sophomore Nicoletta DiCocco led the Knights with 10 kills and 12 digs in the contest. Junior Kristen Moore posted 29 assists and six digs. Freshmen Lauren Kehoe and Cassidy Stewart tallied eight kills apiece.
The first set was a back and forth affair, as the Knights came back from seven down to even the score at 20. From there, the Cougars ended the set on a 5-1 run to claim the opening stanza.
In the second set, Caldwell opened up a 5-0 lead. The Knights countered with a 9-1 run, taking a 9-6 advantage on an ace by junior Ragina Anthony. Six straight points by Caldwell put the visitors ahead by three, 12-9. The match was tied on three occasions late, including 22-22, before the Cougars registered three of the final four points of the set.
In the third set, QC found itself in an early 7-0 hole. The Knights were able to close the gap to three at 10-7, and later trimmed it to 17-15. From there, three straight points by Caldwell pushed the advantage to five, before the Cougars finished the match on a 5-4 run.
