FLUSHING, N.Y. - The Queens College volleyball team began its 2016 campaign Friday evening with a split of two matches held at FitzGerald Gymnasium. The Knights opened the day with a 3-0 victory over Bloomfield before falling in five sets to Le Moyne in the nightcap.
Junior Kristen Moore posted 65 assists over the two contests, while classmate Ragina Anthony had 30 digs. Sophomore Malaika Hollis posted 21 digs and 12 kills. Sophomore Nicoletta DiCocco posted 22 kills, while senior Tori Bowser had 15 of her own.
In the first match of the day, QC took the opening set 25-19, before taking set two 25-21. In the tightest of the three sets, the Knights came away victorious 25-23 in the third. DiCocco led the Knights with 10 kills in the victory, while Hollis and Bowser had eight apiece. Anthony tallied 12 digs, while Moore had 30 assists.
Against the Dolphins, the two squads traded sets with Le Moyne taking the first 25-19. The Knights came back with a 25-15 victory in set two. A 25-13 decision went in the favor of the visitors, before QC forced a final set with a 25-21 win in set four. The Dolphins jumped out to an early cushion and never looked back in the 15-7 fifth set win.
Moore tallied 35 assists, while Anthony finished with 18 digs and Hollis added 14 of her own. DiCocco led the Knights with 12 kills, while Lauren Kehoe posted 11.
The Knights conclude their opening weekend with two more home matches Saturday. QC takes on American International at 10:00 am, before facing off with Chestnut Hill at 2:00 pm.
