Women's Tennis Gears Up for 2018 East Coast Conference Championship

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Oct. 24, 2018) - It has been eight years since the Queens College women's tennis team hoisted the East Coast Conference Tournament trophy. In that time, however, the Knights have built themselves up as one of the strongest programs in the East Region. The numbers speak for themselves: since the start of the 2011 season, Queens has posted an .801 winning percentage with a 113-28 overall record. The Knights have been to the NCAA Round of 16 five times in that stretch, as well as being in the NCAA Tournament each year of the span.

Queens will once again play host to the ECC Tournament this coming weekend (Oct. 27-28) with the Knights seeking to continue a strong regular season and finally win back the conference crown. Standing in the way of QC, however, will be six-time defending champion NYIT along with 2011 ECC title-winner District of Columbia and play-off debutant Roberts Wesleyan.

The action will commence Saturday (Oct. 27) with the top-seeded Knights hosting No. 4 Roberts Wesleyan at 11 a.m. The two squads met last Friday (Oct. 19) with Queens earning a 7-0 victory to clinch the No. 1 overall seed. The winner will face the victor of the other ECC semifinal, as second-seed NYIT faces third-seed UDC at 2 p.m. The Bears won the prior match with the Firebirds by a 6-1 margin, which took place coincidentally on Oct. 19.

The final is set for Sunday (Oct. 28) at 12 p.m. and could feature Queens and NYIT for a seventh consecutive season unless one of the other two teams is able to hand a gigantic upset to either squad. Admission is free for all to attend but space is limited at the Queens College Tennis Center. You can also follow along with the tournament live on the ECC Sports Network or by downloading the ECC Sports Network app on smartphones or mobile devices.
