FLUSHING, N.Y. (Oct. 10, 2018) - After clinching the match with rival NYIT and giving Queens a victory over the team that defeated them one year ago in the East Coast Conference Championship, junior Marisa Ostoja of the Knights women's tennis team was named ECC Player of the Week by the conference office on Tuesday (Oct. 9). In addition, Ostoja's doubles partner---Louisa Brunetti---made the ECC Weekly Honor Roll once again after another standout week of performances.
Ostoja ran her singles record on the season to 9-1 overall and had the clinching point in the Knights' 4-3 win over NYIT on Saturday. The junior defeated Ivana Andric in three sets (2-6, 6-4, 6-4) with the match on the line after beating Andric and Hoch in doubles with Louisa Brunetti earlier in the day. The two wins against the Bears brought Ostoja's record on the week to 4-0 as she also claimed wins in singles and doubles play against Wilmington on Friday.
Brunetti was another key reason for the Knights' 2-0 week which included a 4-3 victory over defending ECC champion NYIT. She teamed with Marisa Ostoja at second-doubles to claim a 6-1 win over Ivana Andric and Cosima Hoch, despite the Bears winning the doubles point. Then in singles play, she dropped Hoch in straight sets at the fourth-flight to give QC a 3-2 lead which eventually led to the 4-3 win. Brunetti and Ostoja also won a 6-1 doubles match versus Wilmington in a 7-0 sweep of the Wildcats the day prior.
Queens will continue conference play on Saturday (Oct. 13) as the Knights face Molloy in an 11 a.m. contest at Eisenhower Park.
