ECC Announces Women's Tennis All-Conference Selections

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. - A quartet of Queens College women's tennis players were recognized with East Coast Conference All-Conference honors, the league announced.  Senior Angelika Sobiecka, junior Emy Alplund and sophomores Laura Ortega Jover and Line Sorsdahl Aasen were all named to the Second Team ledger, while head coach Alan Nagel was named ECC Coach of the Year.

Sobiecka, an All-ECC honoree for the third straight campaign, posted a 7-1 record over the regular season in singles action, and an 8-3 mark in doubles.  Sobiecka's doubles partner Alplund posted a 9-2 singles mark in dual matches during the regular season.  Alplund is in her first season with the Knights are competing at the College of Coastal Georgia.

Another newcomer, Ortega Jover, posted a 5-3 mark in dual match competition as the Knights' 1st singles player.  In doubles action, Ortega Jover posted a 5-2 mark in conference action.  Aasen registered an 8-2 mark in dual match play, and 10-3 overall record this season.  In doubles play, she went 9-3, including 5-1 in conference competition.

This is the eleventh Coach of the Year honor for Nagel in his 38 year career. He led the squad to a 6-1 mark in conference play and an 8-1 overall record to earn the No. 2 seed in the ECC Championship.
