Women’s Tennis Sweeps Daemen In Unkind Temperatures

AMHERST, N.Y. - The Queens College women's tennis team continued their unbeaten streak by picking up a 5-0 win over the Wildcats of Daemen College Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Knights improved their overall record to 8-0, 6-0 in ECC, while the Wildcats dropped to 6-10 overall and 1-5 in conference action. The match was shortened and played to decision due to temperatures below 50 degrees at the Ellicott Tennis Courts.

The Knights picked up points with wins in all three doubles matchups. The team of senior Angelika Sobiecka and junior Emy Alplund took down Karli Hollins and Hayle Scanlan 8-3 in the top spot. Line Sorsdahl Aasen and Laura Ortega Jover won 8-2 in 2nd doubles over Gretchen Ringler and Shaylah Iverson. In 3rd doubles, Ruth Artaza Martin and Darya Kolesnichenko emerged unscathed against Jessica Robins and Delaney Fragale picking up an 8-0 win.

In singles play, Sobiecka and Alplund won in the third and fourth singles to close out the match as Sobiecka swept Ringler 6-0, 6-0 while Alplund defeated Robins 6-0, 6-1 respectively. The singles action of Jover vs Hollins (6-3) Martin vs Scanlan (5-3) Bel vs Iverson (4-1) and Kolesnichenko vs Fragale (6-1, 4-1) went unfinished.

UP NEXT: with the ECC regular season crown up in the air, the Knights return to action on Monday Afternoon, Oct 24th as Queens plays hosts to the Bears of NYIT with action set to being at 1:30 pm.
