Swimming and Diving Host Baruch and Adelphi in Annual Alumni Meet

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Nov. 9, 2017) – The roar of an excited crowd echoed off the walls of the QC Aquatics Center on Thursday (Nov. 9) as the Knights hosted Adelphi and Baruch in the annual Alumni Swim Meet in Flushing. While individual performances showcased QC dominance in several races, ultimately the Knights were unable to capture all the glory in the team competitions. The QC women's swimming and diving team claimed a 62-38 win over Baruch but was felled by Adelphi in a 58-42 defeat. The men's team would lose to both the Bearcats and the Panthers, as well, by respective margins of 72-17 and 75-22.

Helping the women's team to the win over Baruch was junior Jennifer Arana-Perez, who outclassed her competition in the 200-yard freestyle (2:06.61) and 100-yard butterfly (1:01.88) races respectively. Arana also swam a near-perfect anchor leg in the 200-yard freestyle relay event, as her time of 25.92 seconds propelled QC to a second-place finish in that event (1:47.72). Gabriela Almeida claimed first place in the 500-yard freestyle race in a time of 5:44.91---almost a full five seconds better than her nearest competitor. The sophomore also garnered a second-place finish in the 1000-yard free by touching the wall in a time of 12:07.93. Fellow second-year swimmer Anna Lee posted second-place efforts in the 200-yard individual medley (2:13.77) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:13.08) while senior Nicole Weinsheimer earned 143.25 points for QC in the 1-meter diving competition.

On the men's side, senior Jordan Melidor-Fuxis was a force to be reckoned with in the pool. Melidor-Fuxis was dominant in winning the 50-yard freestyle (22.45) and 100-yard butterfly (54.63). The senior was nearly three-for-three in his swims, as his time of 56.15 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke earned him second-place distinction.

The Knights will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 18 as QC travels to Kings Point to compete in the USMMA Invitational.
