Women's Swimming And Diving Picks Up Wins Over Adelphi, Baruch

FLUSHING, N.Y. - The Queens College women's swimming and diving team picked up a pair of victories during its season-opening tri-meet with Adelphi and Baruch Thursday evening.  The Knights narrowly outscored the Panthers 58-54 and captured a 72-39 decision over the Bearcats.

The Knights were able to come away with the win over Adelphi with a win in the final event of the evening, the 200 freestyle relay.  The quartet of Amanda Giordano, Katie Waskiewicz, Nicole Weinsheimer and anchor Elizabeth Hodges posted a time of 1:47.11, slighty besting Adelphi's time of 1:47.53 in the heat.

In individual action, Jennifer Arana-Perez picked up two victories.  In the 200 free, the sophomore claimed first with a time of 2:07.06.  Later in the evening, Arana-Perez took first in the 100 fly with a time of 1:02.23.  Arana-Perez also posted a time of 1:09.26 in the 100 back, placing second.
In the 100 breaststroke, Hodges placed first with a time of 1:14.22.  Earlier in the day, the sophomore took first in the 100 free with a time of 56.84.

Other standout efforts included Weinsheimer's second place in the 50 free.  The senior touched the wall in 27.41, followed narrowly by freshman Chelsy  Espinosa's third place finish (27.69).  Waskiewicz took second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:23.53.  

In one-meter diving, Kailey White registered a score of 348.50 over two rounds while Kerry Ghanie recorded 275.60 points.

The Knights travel to the College of New Rochelle Nov. 15 for a tri-meet with CNR and York.
