Women's Soccer Earns Second-Half Goal, 1-1 Draw at New Haven Saturday

WEST HAVEN, Conn. (Oct. 13, 2018) - Alma Mana'o's 85th-minute goal evened up the score late and propeled the Queens College women's soccer team to a 1-1 draw against New Haven on Saturday (Oct. 13).

The Knights (2-8-2) allowed an early marker in the game's first 100 seconds, with Emily Morello netting her sixth goal of the season off an assist from Samantha Roth to give New Haven (2-9-2) a 1-0 lead. Queens was unable to equalize the match until late in the second half, as Agnes Stanton headed a ball towards net that was saved by Kyra Wolonsavich. The rebound on the shot fell to the feet of Mana'o, and the senior netted the tying goal to send the game to overtime.

New Haven dominated the extra sessions with an 8-0 advantage on shots, but the Chargers could not net the golden goal to pick up the win. In the 109th minute, Jordan Nichols pushed a shot towards net that was cleared off the back line by Sarafina Smith; one minute later, Marisa Pacapelli attempted to grab the winning goal but her shot was saved by QC goalie Nikoletta Pravata as time expired.

Pravata made seven saves in net for the Knights, who were outshot by a 21-13 margin. Nicole Abalco led Queens with four shots while Mana'o had two shots on target in the draw.

The Knights will host NYIT on Wednesday (Oct. 17) at noon in Flushing.
