Women’s Soccer Closes Season with 3-0 Win at Dominican

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – The Queens College women's soccer team closed out the 2017 season on a high note, picking up a dominant 3-0 non-conference victory at Dominican College (N.Y.) on Monday. The Knights finished their season by winning three of their final four games.

Queens finishes at 5-10-2 overall for the year under second-year head coach Nicole Pacapelli, while Dominican drops to 2-14.

Senior goalkeeper Nicole Cranny capped off her Queens career with her third shutout of the season and fourth as a member of the Knights, while she made three saves in net. The Knights dominated on both ends, holding advantages in shots (19-9), shots on-goal (7-3) and corner kicks (7-1).

After 39 scoreless minutes, it looked as if the game could be heading to halftime scoreless, but Queens had other plans. Freshman Sarafina Smith opened up the scoring with her first career goal, the game-winner at that, on a shot from the left side in the 40th minute to give the Knights a 1-0 lead heading into the break.

Just moments into the second half, the Knights would add to their lead, as sophomore Victoria Ramirez also scored her first goal in a Knights uniform, deflecting a shot off of Chargers' goalie Angelica Contreras in the 48th minute. Already leading 2-0, Queens stretched the difference to three in the final minute of the game, as senior Haley Gibbons sent a pass to fellow senior Courtney Locurcio for her first goal of the season.

Queens finishes its 2017 campaign with one more victory than last season, while the Knights won four more road games this season compared to 2016. After a slow start, the Knights finished the season strong, winning three of their last four games, with the only loss coming in overtime.
