FLUSHING, N.Y. (Apr. 26, 2018) - Lauren Gentile and Patriece Ausili each scored two goals but the Queens College women's lacrosse team dropped its East Coast Conference finale to NYIT on Thursday (Apr. 26) by a 22-6 score at QC Lacrosse Field.
The Knights (5-10, 1-7 ECC) fell behind in the first half as NYIT (12-4, 5-2 ECC) scored the first three goals of the contest in the opening five minutes of play. Gentile put Queens on the board with 24:39 to play in the opening frame but NYIT answered with five in a row---Shannon Donovan scored her second of the game and Alyssa Milano completed a first-round hat trick in that stretch of goals. QC went back-to-back with Patriece Ausili scoring on a feed from Gentile and Mary Pat Gibble adding her first of the contest to bring the Knights within five goals with just under seven minutes remaining in the opening half. Milano then added two more goals to her account and Madisyn Hausch scored twice as well; Gentile tallied her second as Queens ended the first half in a nine-goal hole as the Bears led 13-4.
Donovan netted a marker to open the second half to start a 9-2 run in the final thirty minutes of regulation as NYIT opened up a 14-4 edge. Ausili's second of the game once again brought the Knights within nine goals but the Bears scored eight of the next nine tallies with Sarah Koehler scoring for the Knights as the clock ran out on Queens in the ECC match-up.
Shannon Gibbons posted a team-high four ground balls while Koehler won four draw controls for the Knights in the effort. Nicole Cutrone was a force on defense with two caused turnovers and Jessica Serpe made fourteen saves in a game performance for Queens.
The Knights host Stonehill on Sunday (Apr. 29) to wrap up the 2018 regular season. It will be Senior Day for the Knights, who will honor five players in their final home game for Queens---Gibble, Melissa Fumano, Melanie Kahn, Nicole Moniello and Stephanie Neuner.
