Queens Lacrosse Celebrates Senior Day with 8-4 Win Over Bridgeport
Flushing, N.Y. - The Queens College lacrosse team celebrated its senior day prior to the game with Bridgeport as the team honored graduating seniors, Kahli Evans, Kristilyn Reynolds and Joanna Verouhis. The team sent the seniors out in style, defeating the Purple Knights 8-4, to pick up their second East Coast Conference win of the season.
Though Verouhis missed the game with an injury, Reynolds and Evans figured prominently in the outcome. Barely four minutes into action, Bridgeport jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Gabrielle Valela took a pass from Allie Wiggins and scored.
The Knights responded by taking control of possession as Reynolds won the ensuing draw. Queens worked the ball around and Carly Cheirico found Alyssa McCormick who beat the goalie with the equalizer. Three minutes later, Janet Campo put QC up 2-1 when she scored from the free position. The game remained that way into the half.
Five minutes into the second half, Bridgeport's Emily Catalano scored an unassuming goal from in front of the net and the game was even at 2-all. With 19:50 remaining, McCormick scored her second goal of the game and QC was up 3-2. Chierico made it 4-2 with an unassisted marker four minutes later. Campo made the score 5-2 for Queens with another goal at 13:56. Nicolette Scrozzo won the ensuing draw and sprinted past the defense for an unassisted goal. QC was up 6-2. Taylor Martello and Campo scored the next two and despite to late markers from the Purple Knights, Queens won, 8-4.
The team closes out the season with an ECC matchup against Molloy on Saturday. The opening draw is set for noon.
