Kahli Evans Turns Aside a Season-Best 19 Shots in 14-6 Loss to Roberts Wesleyan
Flushing, N.Y. - The Queens College lacrosse team lost an East Coast Conference matchup to Roberts Wesleyan, 14-6, on Saturday in Flushing. Kahli Evans tied a season-high with 19 saves. She made 19 stops against Dowling earlier in the month.
The Knights trailed 8-2 at at halftime. They fell down 7-0, before Gabby Casanova found Taylor Martello for a goal. QC's second marker came at the closing seconds of the half, when Janet Campo scored just before time expired.
The second saw Queens rally, scoring the first four goals to pull within 8-6. A Casanova marker made it 8-3. Martello's second goal exactly one minute later put the Knights within 8-4. She added her third marker of the match at 22:14 to make the score 8-5. Finally, Carly Chierico scored on a free position shot to pull QC within 8-6. The Red Hawks rallied from there, scored the next six, and won 14-6.
The game was the team's annual 'Think Pink' game to help raise awareness for breast cancer research. The team wore pink warmups and pink shoelaces for the event and the game was dedicated to the memory of Elizabeth Devivo, mother of freshman, Elizabeth Devivo. The elder Devivo lost her 13-year battle with cancer this past September.
The team returns to action on Wednesday, April 23, when the team hosts Bridgeport. The team will hold its Senior Day ceremony prior to the start of action.
