Evans Stops a Game-High 14 Shots in Loss at Georgian Court, 11-7
Lakewood, N.J. - The Queens College lacrosse team went into the halftime even with Georgian Court before succumbing in the second half. Kahli Evans made a game-high 14 saves.
The two sides were knotted at 5-5 at the half before the Lions scored six times in the second half to securee the win. The Knights would show some moxie after falling behind 1-0 when Alyssa McCormick found Janet Campo to even the score nearly 20 minutes into action. Georgian Court would regain the lead less than a minute later, but QC would come from behind for the second time as a Carly Cheirico marker tied the score at 2-2.
From there, the Lions scored three unaswered goals to go ahead 5-2, seemingly putting the game out of reach. Howver for the third time in the half, the Knights fought back to even the score as a pair of Taylor Martello, unassisted goals sandwiched a tally from Alyssa McCormich and the game was even at 5-5.
The Lions struck first in the second half, but Kristen Korzevinski scored to tie it up for the fourth time. From there, Georgian Court went ahead, 7-6, but QC leveled the score at 7-all when Chierico scored unassisted. Finally, the Lions tallied the final four goals of the contest to win 11-7.
For Queens, Martello had two goals and an assist, while Chierico scored twice. McCormick added a goal and an assist. EVans turned aside 14 shots.
The Queens College lacrosse team returns to action on Saturday, March 15, when they face St. Michael's in Colchester, Vermont. The opening draw is scheduled for 11:00 AM.
