FLUSHING, N.Y. – The defending NCAA Division II East Regional Champion Queens College women's basketball team has released its 2017-18 schedule, reigning East Coast Conference (ECC) Coach of the Year Elizabeth Naumovski announced on Tuesday. The 26-game slate features 13 home games and 18 ECC contests.
"This is a transition year for us, as we rely on new people to lead and perform," Naumovski explained. "This schedule will allow us to evaluate whether we have the personnel to maintain our tradition of excellence."
Queens will open up the season at the Jefferson Challenge in Philadelphia, Pa. The Knights will first take on Jefferson on Saturday, Nov. 11, at 2 p.m. The next day, Queens will meet Chestnut Hill for a 12 p.m. Sunday matchup.
The Knights will then host three straight home games from Fitzgerald Gymnasium to conclude the month of November. The home opener will take place on Saturday, Nov. 18, against Concordia (N.Y.) at 1:30 p.m. Queens will then host Bloomfield on Nov. 22 and Dominican (N.Y.) on Nov. 29 for a pair of Wednesday evening non-conference games.
To kick off the month of December, Queens will hit the road for three games, starting with a trip to University of the Sciences in a rematch of the NCAA Regional Semifinals on Sunday, Dec. 3, followed by a big non-conference matchup at Caldwell on Wednesday, Dec. 6. The Knights will conclude their road trip with a rematch of the NCAA Regional Finals, visiting Molloy to start conference play on Saturday, Dec. 9.
Queens will conclude 2017 and head into 2018 with a three-game home stand. The Knights will welcome Franklin Pierce for Holiday Hoops on Saturday, Dec. 16, and then will wrap up December against District of Columbia on Saturday, Dec. 30. Concluding the home stand will be a matchup against ECC rival NYIT on Wednesday, Jan. 3.
From there, the Knights dive into ECC play. After visiting LIU Post (1/6), Queens will host Mercy (1/10) before traveling to Bridgeport (1/13). Three home games will be next for the Knights, as they will host Roberts Wesleyan (1/19), Daemen (1/21) and St. Thomas Aquinas (1/24). Queens will conclude the month of January with road games at District of Columbia (1/27) and St. Thomas Aquinas (1/30).
The Knights will start February off with their Girls and Women in Sports/Dress for Success game at home on Saturday, Feb. 3, against Molloy. Queens will then visit NYIT (2/7) before hosting its Pink Game against LIU Post on Saturday, Feb. 10. After a three-game road trip with visits to Roberts Wesleyan (2/16), Daemen (2/18) and Mercy (2/21), the Knights will conclude the regular season with Senior Day against Bridgeport on Saturday, Feb. 24, at 1:30 p.m.
The ECC Championship will begin with first-round games on Feb. 28, followed by the semifinals on March 3. The ECC title game is scheduled for Sunday, March 4. Both the semifinals and finals will be held at Roberts Wesleyan College.
Last season, the Knights reached the Elite Eight after winning their first-ever NCAA DII regional title. Queens won the ECC Regular Season Championship with a 17-1 conference mark and finished seventh in the nation with a program-best 27-5 overall record.
