NEWARK, DE -- Fortified by two convincing victories over East Coast Conference opponents, Mercy and NYIT, the Queens College women's basketball team was the unanimous top selection in the D2SIDA Women's Basketball Division II East Region Media Poll released on Monday.
The Knights first took care of Mercy at home on Wednesday, outpacing their opponent by a final score 82-54. Senior Madison Rowland led the team with 25 points, adding 10 rebounds, three steals, and four assists. Meanwhile, MacKenzie Rowland contributed a double-double of her own with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Later in Saturday's road matchup against NYIT, Queens pulled away in the second half to defeat the Bears by a final margin of 72-61. Freshman Beth Bonin helped the visiting Knights put the game away, scoring 11 of her 19 points in the final quarter on 4-of-5 shooting from the field. Madison was magnificent again, scoring 25 points and hauling down a career-best 20 rebounds. And not to be outdone, MacKenzie turned in her second double-double in as many games with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
With the pair of wins, Queens College remains unbeaten in the ECC while boasting a 7-1 overall record. The Knights' look to continue their torrid start in conference play tonight on the road against a Molloy team ranked eighth in the region. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
