WBB Stays Unbeaten In ECC Play With Win At NYIT

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. - On Saturday afternoon, the duo of Madison and MacKenzie Rowland combined for 45 points and 30 rebounds as the Queens College women's basketball defeated the Bears of NYIT 72-61 in East Coast Conference action. With the win, the Knights improved to 7-1 overall, 3-0 in ECC, while the Bears dropped to 5-4 overall, and 0-3 in conference action.

The Knights trailed 8-3 in the opening minutes of the first quarter before QC used a 12-0 run from 7:16 to 3:21 to take a 15-8 run led by 10 points from Mac. Rowland. The Bears answered back to cut the deficit down to one, 15-14, before a jumper by freshmen Beth Bonin increased the lead by three, 17-14, to close out the first quarter. 

The Knights stayed in control of the game despite the Bears staying within one possession. The Bears retook the lead after Nina Vukosavljevic connected on a pair of free throw as NYIT led 31-29 with 2:01 remaining. QC took a two-point lead, 33-31, into the half, a lead they would not surrender for the remainder of the game. 

For the first five minutes of the third quarter, the Bears stayed within of the Knights as a Julie Williams three-pointer cut the deficit down to two, 44-42, to force a QC timeout. Out of the timeout, the Knights went on an 8-0 run as QC extended their lead by 10, 52-42, to put away the Bears. Mad. Rowland poured in 10 points in the third quarter as the Knights outscored the Bears 21-17 in the third quarter. 

Bonin scored 11 points of her 19 points in the fourth quarter to shut out any comeback the Bears would attempt. 

The Knights shot 44.3% on the day while holding the Bears to 33.3% shooting. The Knights were led by another double-double from Mad. Rowland, who finished with 25 points and a career-high 20 rebounds.  Mac. Rowland registered her fourth double-double of the season, scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds. Bonin poured in 19 points, four assists, and two blocks. 

Vukosavljevic led the home team with a double-double scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds. Shannon Duer scored 10 points and seven rebounds. 

UP NEXT: The Knights stay on the road as they travel to Rockville Center, NY on Wednesday, Dec 7 to face Molloy College in ECC action with tip-off slated for 5:00 pm.
