QCWBB Knocks Off Division I Fairleigh Dickinson, 70-54

TEANECK, N.J. - The No. 11 Queens College women's basketball team went into the Thanksgiving holiday weekend on a high note, topping Division I opponent Fairleigh Dickinson 70-54 on the road.

Senior Madison Rowland led the Knights with 21 points in the contest, to go along with eight steals and seven rebounds.  Senior MacKenzie Rowland led the Knights with 14 points and 14 rebounds.  Freshman Beth Bonin notched her third double figure outing of the year, tallying 13 points with a trio of three-pointers.

The Knights did their biggest damage at the free throw line, outscoring the home Knights 26-8 at the charity stripe.  Overall, QC connected on 89.7% of their attempts from the line.

The Knights never trailed in the contest and jumped out to an 8-0 lead with 8:09 left in the first quarter, forcing an FDU timeout.  Queens led 11-0 before the Knights scored their first basket of the game, a three by Peniel M'Bikata, with 3:57 left in the first.  After the opening 10 minutes, QC held a 17-12 advantage.

The Knights maintained their lead in the second quarter and took a 23-12 cushion on a layup by Mac. Rowland with 7:49 left in the frame.  FDU countered with an 11-0 run and evened the score at 23 with 2:12 remaining in the opening half.  A jumper by Mac. Rowland pushed Queens ahead 25-23, giving the Knights a halftime lead.

A Bonin three in the opening minute of the third quarter gave Queens a 30-25 lead.  Mad. Rowland pushed QC ahead by eight, 38-30, with 7:05 left in the frame.  FDU trimmed the deficit to one, 40-39, before Queens ended the quarter on an 11-3 run.

A three by junior Merrick Rowland with 6:19 remaining pushed Queens ahead by double figures for good.  A three-point play by Mad. Rowland gave Queens its biggest lead, 68-51, with 1:09 left in the contest.

Brianna Thomas was the lone FDU player in double figures, pacing the Knights with a game-high 25 points and eight rebounds.  QC is back in action Sunday afternoon at Assumption (3:00 pm).
